redgum — Recovery & Resilience Foundation

Here for paramedics

The tree. The river red gum is Australia’s great survivor — it endures drought and flood and still stands, season after season. We chose the name because recovery asks the same of people: to weather what came, and grow anew.

The echo. For many veterans the name recalls Redgum’s “I Was Only 19” — the song that first told the truth about coming home. Our free, trauma-informed programs exist for that road home: movement, mindfulness and community.

Who we are ·
Veteran, first responder & family wellbeing, Australia-wide

For most of us, you were the person we called.

You showed up for us. Then you went home, and someone there was awake.

Our story

The paramedic on the kitchen floor at 3am. The constable at the door with news nobody wants. The nurse two hours past the end of shift. The soldier who got on the plane so the rest of us never had to think about why. And the household that waited up, the partner who learned to read a mood from the sound of a car in the driveway. Redgum is for both of you.

We come from this: twenty-six years in green, an ex-transport digger, a family line of serving members. So we built somewhere for the whole household to go, and we made sure it was more than one kind of room. Trauma-informed yoga and walking groups, knife making and leather work, coffee mornings, peer groups and family days. Some find it on a mat and some find it at a bench with a vice, and our job is working out which one is yours.

If the group you need doesn’t exist yet, say so, and we’ll help you build it.

No referral. No diagnosis. Nobody makes you talk.

Your path to recovery

  • Pillar 1

    Restore

    Get your sleep back

Trauma-informed yoga, breathwork, clinical Pilates, meditation and sleep workshops. A nervous system that’s been switched on for years needs somewhere to put that down. Most people notice it in their sleep first.

  • Pillar 2

    Rebuild

Get your hands and body back

Knife making, leather work, strength and mobility, walking groups and nature-based sessions. Work that needs your full attention gives your head a rest, and you go home holding something you made.

  • Pillar 3

    Reconnect

    Get your people back

Peer groups, coffee mornings, community BBQs and family days. Most of it happens shoulder to shoulder rather than face to face, because that’s how the hard conversations actually start. Partners, kids and carers have their own place here.

  • Pillar 4

    Recover

    Make it hold

Trauma recovery workshops, resilience programmes and warm referrals into psychologists, counsellors, advocacy and DVA claims support, so the ground you gained is still there in six months.
